To be fair, we've done this . . . a lot. And we'd like to share the tips we've learned and help make the Mesa Book festival the best experience for you and your fans. Some of these tips may sound simple, but we've seen too many people not get the memo not to include them.
Be 100% sure you can attend and register your space as early as possible. Waiting too long could have you bumped to the waiting list, and that's not such a good place to be. Cue sad face emoji.
Stay Informed of Festival Progress
We'll post information on Facebook regularly, so be sure you're connected and you don't miss a thing.
Add the Festival Emails to your Address Book
Get people excited ahead of time
Undoubtedly, we have a plan to promote the Festival. You have a place in that as well. Energize your fans, friends and family to come out to the event. The best part is that the event is free, so you're not asking them to buy a ticket. We'll share some more plans that you can implement as we move forward, but with all of us pulling together, we can get many more people looking for books in DT Mesa.
Remember why you're there
For most vendors, you're there to make some money. You are there to serve the attendees and connect them to the best book/product/etc. for them, and it's in your space. Too many times we see vendors set up a space and have an air that they expect the attendee to somehow do all the work of engagement. Smille, greet people, show an Interest in them.
Keep it simple, keep it clean
Think about the most successful retail stores and how they manage their appearence to customers. Your space can easily emulate a successful storefront with a crisp, clean and organized appearence.
Pay your taxes
If you are planning to handle your TPT duties on your own, be sure you are registered. Transaction Privilege Tax (TPT) information is available at: https://www.azdor.gov/Business/TransactionPrivilegeTax.aspx. Consider using one of our booksellers if that process seems daunting.
It's December, in AZ
Be prepared for an evening in December. The average Daily High temp in December is 66 degrees, the low 45 degrees. Dress appropriatley, check the weather forcast before. Layering is generally a good plan.
Plan for Power
The event takes place from 2pm to 8pm. Sunset in AZ in December is somewhere around 5:20pm, meaning you'll have some darkness creeping in. Be prepared. While there are some streetside outlets that--if not being used by others and are functioning--are available to you, you may want to have some battery power available to light your products and power your register.
